ASD & constipation

For as long as I can recall I've tended to be constipated. I know it occurs more frequently in  autistic compared to non autistic children, but what about adults?

I thought autism is more associated with GI tract problems and diarrhea,I have not heard of constipation being a problem but I could be wrong.

I have had issues with constipation my entire life, and later on also issues that seem like ulcerative colitis or Crohn's. My issues haven't gone away in adolescence or adulthood.
  • Drinking lots of water helps with constipation. Ulcerative colitis is very distressing as is Chrohns. I believe they are both exacerbated by anxiety .

That could explain quite a lot. I tend to experience mild dehydration. I'm not very good at telling when I need to drink(interoception) . That  can result in dry mouth, headache and nausea.
