I found myself feeling very sad at reading all this, but then I decided to take a different view. It was the early 1980s and the very term 'Asperger's Syndrome' had only recently been coined - it certainly hadn't become common currency. And while I wish the adults around me had been more enquiring, I can see how I overcame some of my difficulties even without their help. And now I want to use my knowledge to make what difference I can for others - for example, in my workplace. The alternative is to lose myself in grief for the past. I don't want that. I have suffered enough.
